What is
Sensory Drawing?

Sensory Drawing is an expressive drawing practice that works through the senses — touch, sound, smell, sight, taste, and intuition — rather than through technique or artistic skill. It is not about making something beautiful. It is about arriving at yourself through the act of making.

Developed by artist Brindusa Burrows over years of teaching in universities, corporate settings and workshops, the practice has one consistent discovery: the block was never about ability. It was about attention.

Where art, nature
and attention meet

Brindusa Burrows is a visual artist and lecturer based in the Swiss Alps. After years of city living and travelling the world, she moved to the mountains — and that is where she learned to be still.

Working with the cross-section of a 268-year-old felled beech tree, she discovered that drawing from touch, from smell, from the body rather than the eye unlocked something she had never accessed before. Sensory Drawing became her go-to creative unblocking tool — and then she began to teach it.

She teaches at university level and in corporate settings, and has spoken at TEDx on the relationship between attention, nature, and creative practice.
